The Somatic Playground
Moving at the Rhythm of Connection and Trust
"Oh my goodness, I have so much fun attending these events!! Now Monday nights are one of my fave nights of the week. 🤣
The Somatic Playground is a friendly and supportive place to explore many fun, body- and awareness-based connection activities. So often I noticed myself contemplating things I learned or connections that moved me during the event. It’s such a nourishing and community connected way to grow and develop in really playful and empowering ways! I’m grateful and will keep coming back." ~ Carley
"Facilitated exercises have created a comfortable space to explore ourselves and engage in deeper interactions with others. The building of the Somatic Playground community, and its varied range of teachers, has given us a path into exploring other communities in the Bay Area. As a couple, it’s been a wonderful place to learn about ourselves and our relationship" ~ Kai & Eric
"I had high expectations because of my experience with the work of the producers of Somatic Playground and I was NOT disappointed. I wanted to go deeper into what's possible within the realms of sensation, creativite expression, and attunement to myself and others. Relatable facilitation, great models for conscious relating and body presence. I comenoutbof the classes totally alive with an amazing experience of soft and juicy self intimacy and awakend connection to myself and others." ~Katharine
"I love Somatic Playground because it enables me to try out different skillsets in a group of likeminded individuals and hosts week after week building a community and learning while we do it. Every week is different but hinge upon similar goals to connect more deeply with people through targeted exercises, games, and frameworks created by the diverse array of highly skilled facilitators. // There is something for everyone through Somatic Playground, whether you’ve been immersed in somatic workshop spaces before, are comfortable with sensual, or you’re brand new, nervous, or are wanting a beginner space, different classes offer different levels and interests making it accessible to a diverse array of folks. There really is space for everyone no matter how you identify or what other types of events you attend. // My favorite part is often being able to discuss and debrief, which happens in each class in between exercises and time for open play. It’s a really incredible space and I’ve made some deep friendships through it, learned skills, and healed parts of myself and am excited to continue on in this wonderful community." ~ Elle
"I've really got a lot out of this series, appreciating the variety of approaches from the facilitators. They've brought me movement, stillness, breath, depth. I've found better connection with my own inner experience, and I'm enjoying the company of a community of somatic fellow travelers!" ~ Joseph
"I attended a class at The Somatic Playground to get out of my comfort zone and meet positive people. I was scared because it was the first time exploring a more emotional side of me and I was doing it in front of strangers. I couldn’t have chose a better place. Every one was so open minded and accepting of me, I felt safe and comfortable the whole time. It was an unforgettable experience!" ~ Brian
"The Somatic Playground hosts workshops that create a safe and welcoming environment where participants can dive deep into introspection while having embodied connections. From the beautiful rope workshop to the "Play Your Way to Authenticity" workshop, each experience is a testament to the care and creativity of the facilitators. The combination of trust-building activities, guided meditations, and interactive games create a sensory based journey and camaraderie among attendees, leading to the feeling of genuine community." ~ Heather
"Thank you so much for organizing the Somatic Playground a second time. When I started attending last fall my partner and I were just beginning to explore more movement and somatic awareness activities. I came to the workshops initially intending to connect with others in ways that I was not yet conversant. As each workshop is different, with a full-fledged teacher sharing their passions and skills, I have left each one filled with a broadened sense of community and support in finding out together just how deep and full and mysterious living can be. The work here is important as it brings together many teachers and students to explore the beauty of being fully alive." ~Kent

Our Community Agreements
As teachers, facilitators, and participants, while we support everyone engaging with sovereignty (making good choices for themselves and others), we also understand that trauma has a huge influence on people's behavior and experience, so we are trauma informed in the ways we teach, engage, and/or participate in these classes. We also recognize and continue to learn to be aware of the power dynamics that exist or might arise as we engage, and seek to level the playing field of power whenever possible, and engage with utmost attunement, care, and consideration for each other.
Erotic energy may emerge but is not the goal. Sensual touch is welcome - we are exploring all that is possible in terms of how we relate to each other through sensing. Sexual touch and intoxication are not a part of this container.
Diversity and Inclusion
For each class series, we seek to include a diverse group of facilitators to express the full range of humanness, bodies, and experience around race, age, gender, identity, sex, sexual orientation, and more. Some series may appear at first glance to favor some subgroups, and while may be accurate that this is what was available at the time, we continue to include facilitators who fit all of these subgroups.
Similarly, and in collaboration with the Bloom App/Community, we seek to include a diverse group of humans and celebrate all experiences, bodies, and experiences, especially of those who have historically been less favored or appreciated.
Please reach out with any questions.
Refunds or Transfer
If it ever turns out that a class isn't for you or that you missed a class for any reason, we'll be happy to either refund you or allow you to come to a future class instead. No problem 🫶

Apr 1 ✨ Balinese Monkey Chant - Vocal Percussion & Fun with Philippe [The Green Yogi EB]
If you've been to Bali, you no doubt experienced the sounds of the gamelan (Balinese orchestra made of various types of gongs and cymbals) as well a kecak, a type of interlocking vocal percussion similar to sounds monkeys make as well as movement which is a form of Balinese Hindu dance and music drama that was developed in the 1930s by the Balinese for tourists. Also known as the Ramayana monkey chant, the dance is typically performed by a circle of as many as 150 performers wearing checked cloths around their waists, percussively chanting "chak" and moving their hands and arms.
How does this connect with embodiment and somatic/emotional/primal intelligence, you might ask?
This particular form of vocal percussion fully involves movement, breath, and sound, which are foundational to how we engage somatically as humans. And then as we create a field where we all have a place to be in a way that also supports everyone else in being where they need to be, we better understand and feel, in our bodies and hearts what it feels like to be part of something bigger.
Join us and experience the joy, pleasure, and fun of creating a collective soundscape made of multiple voices and bodies aligning through rhythm, intensity, and tone.
See a clip from the movie Baraka of what we will be doing (ten times faster than we will be exploring)
Come play with us!

Apr 8 ✨ Contact-Fusion: Exploring Self, Other, & The Collective with Be & Maya [The Green Yogi EB]
Starting with building a foundation together, learning how to stay connected to the self, other, and the collective, as it’s easy to lose ourselves in being able to hold each of these connections at the same time. Then teaching some very basic fundamentals of contact and fusion, with a focus on attunement and slowing down. Then merging them, starting with having a fusion partner dance be influenced by a contact improver. Then moving into a 4 person partner fusion dance, that fluidly switches from 4 people to pairs of partners and back to 4 in connection.
Be (pronoun Be) is passionate about the intersection of embodied movement/dance, sensuality/sexuality and kink/BDSM. Be loves creating safe(r) spaces for play, exploration, growth and healing as a means of becoming more fully who we are.Be has been creating these spaces for the last 15 years in the Bay Area through classes and events, always pushing the envelope of what’s possible to explore. From a range of 2nd base events, Womxn in Charge, Bi/Pan Playful, Dripping Womxn and classes/playshops such as Intro to Kink, G-spot ejaculation, Rope Dance, Contactsage, Acrosage and Aquaprov.
Be brings 20 years of experience as a bodyworker that shows up through an embodied calming/nurturing presence. Along with 8 years of Somatica training for a deeper understanding of sex, intimacy and relationshipsMaya Light is deeply enamored with the realm of creative expression, supporting others to access and explore the full range of this human experience. As an international DJ, she has adeptly honed the craft of weaving soundscapes for over 8 years, captivated by the tangible conversation she experienced on the dance floor. She then delved into the art of curating intimate spaces, wholeheartedly embracing the transformative power of group fields as catalysts for unraveling and growth. She also studied embodied anatomy at the School of Body Mind Centering, where she delved into a yin form of body work emphasizing safety and deep co-regulation, enriching her understanding of the interconnectedness of mind and body. Creating spaces to unlock and seamlessly integrate new pathways is her biggest passion.

Apr 15 ✨ Latihan: A Blindfolded Dive into the Mystery with Philippe [The Green Yogi EB]
Latihan is a slow deep somatic experience where participants move through the space blindfolded from the void from a place of no mind, no identity, and most importantly: no preference.
In this "no place", there is pure beauty in the movement of humans hurtling across space like asteroids, gently bouncing off, rolling off, and moving with each other. And while some of it might look like contact improv, it is also done without intention, without direction, and without purpose.
Truly, it is a practice of least "intention" while maintaining utmost presence.
It is meditation through movement and touch, coming from nowhere and nothing, and going nowhere and towards nothing.
Join us for this beautiful, simple, and freeing journey into the mystery.

Apr 22 ✨ Embodied Attunement & Somatic Listening with Drew [The Green Yogi EB]
It is said that we use less than 40% of our brains at any given time, but what if our unlocked potential laid in our body and not our mind? What if we could feel the deeper yesses and nos in ourselves and others?
This is an introductory class that will introduce somatic practices for increased awareness, understanding, and attunement to attention, compatability, and inter-relational skills.
The class will have both seated and standing portions, so please dress comfortably.Drew has taught courses in core shamanism and mindfulness, and practices a variety of healing modalities including the Lauren Berry Technique, Biodynamic Cranio-Sacral Therapy, and Reiki. He's also writing a graphic novel and is in a progressive metal band.
Apr 29 ✨ Attunement 101: Connecting at the Speed of Trust with Mischa
[The Green Yogi EB]
This workshop emphasizes the wisdom of the body and puts into practice the revolutionary concept of attunement AS consent. It asks: how can we create safety in connection when we might not even KNOW what we want? Through partnered activities and light touch, participants engage in sensation noticing and naming practices, rolling out the red carpet for no, and finding the juicy YES! We observe our initial judgments of each other and compare them to our lived experiences. Pausing frequently to observe, articulate and share what’s happening in their bodies, participants learn to sense their own internal yeses and no’s, intuit what’s happening for their partners, and learn to differentiate desire from consent, attunement from verbal agreement, and curiosity from agenda.
Mischa Byruck (He/him) is a men's integrity coach and supports his clients to live their lives in line with their values. He specializes in handling public callouts and cancellations and has supported over 50 clients to take accountability for harm and return to their lives transformed. Jun 3 ✨ Rhythms of Rebirth with Pei-Ling [Forest Love EB]
Nature is our first and final teacher, guiding us through a continuous cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.
From the transformation of compost into fertile soil, the exploration from seed to sprout, and the ripening of flowers into fruit, every season of nature teaches us about the cycles within our own lives. We call this journey the Rebirth Cycle.
In Rhythms of Rebirth, you’re invited to harmonize with these natural stages of growth through somatic exploration, vocal improvisation, guided meditation, and a sprinkle of childlike wonder.
Even in the darkest times, nature shows us the miraculous inevitability of new beginnings. This transformative journey invites us to experience how the rhythms of rebirth feel in our bodies, minds, and hearts.
The questions we’re exploring together include:
- Compost: What are we carrying that we can compost to create space for what’s emerging?
- Soil: When we embrace the fertile darkness and the spacious void, what’s here?
- Seed: What is it like to sing the seeds of our intentions?
- Sprout: How do our seeds sprout into expression with discovery, curiosity, and experimentation?
- Flower: What conditions support us to blossom, witnessing and being witnessed in the field of relational contact?
- Fruit: What is possible when we share our harvest, experiencing the fruitful orchestra of the gifts we bring to the whole?
This workshop offers an opportunity to experience the resonance of our bodies in alignment with the rhythms of rebirth, creating space for an individual and collective exploration of what it means to live in harmony with nature’s cycles.
We invite you to join us, no matter where you find yourself in this season of growth.

Jun 10 ✨ Your Voice as an Instrument of Pleasure with Klaus [Forest Love EB]
In this collaborative experience we set out to create a space where we can express ourselves through our voice in relationship with others in a way that feels pleasurable somatically, emotionally, and relationally. You're invited to bring care & presence and acceptance that there might be awkwardness. We'll try to celebrate that as best as we can.
Some questions we will explore include: Can you experience the pleasure of making sounds with your voice down to your bones? Authentic sounding - What sounds emerge from deep inside our body when we dive into letting ourselves be moved? What sounds want to emerge from touch? What does our body sound like when we dance? What might it feel like to experience the joy of creating music that anyone can sing, in the moment, together as a group? What does it feel like to speak from the heart, listen to what wants to be said, and savor silence?
Klaus’ somatic practices include contact & vocal improvisation. Part of why he practices improvisation is to cultivate curiosity over ambition, be with awkwardness, and find joy & playfulness in the moment; some days that works better than others. He is influenced by the work of many wonderful people such as Bobby McFerrin, Benoît Lachambre, Nita Little, Carmen Serber, and… his desk job. He likes having plenty of time & space to start slowly and hopes to be able to share some of his excitement for moving in alignment with the felt sense and curiously witnessing what emerges from that with you.
Jun 17 ✨ The Vehicle of the Senses with Ilka Fanni [Forest Love EB]
The Vehicle of the senses Senses, sensations, feelings. We have a vocabulary to express what’s happening in the body, mind and soul. But are we able to capture everything? Or are there other things to find beyond what’s familiar? In this class we will explore our sensations and interpretations through touch, movement, dance and sound. Researching the thin line between sensual and sexual, we will find and articulate our boundaries and permissions, embrace and transform our judgments into clear communication. We will use body awareness, touch, contact and somatic practices as vehicles that help us to get and give what we need in the moment.
In her teaching, Ilka is focusing on effortless, playful movement, body-mind consciousness, and sense opening, luscious dances. Ilka has been teaching and performing CI, choreography and Improvisation for the past 25 years. She was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary and after falling in love with CI and being part of building the Budapest CI scene, she traveled around the world and landed in San Francisco where she studied Somatic Movement Therapy, Bodywork and Authentic Movement extensively. Ilka's most recent endeavors have been to be a mother, a doula and student midwife, and her lifelong love of dance and bodies keep her moving and she is ever inspired to teach.
